Books
So...I made it safely home after my weekend trip to Iowa/Chicago, which I have to say was a most amazing trip. The only driving problems I had involved getting on Highways going the opposite way I intended to go. And, since both such incidents occurred as the first major decision I had to make in the morning, I am really proud of myself. However, I have one question for the city of Chicago/Wheaton/wherever I was: Actually, perhaps I should set up the scene first. I needed to get onto Hwy 88 going west from Illinois. I saw the sign for entrance ramp for Westbound traffic, passed it, and then drove up the Eastbound ramp. Driving along, I realized that many of the names of upcoming streets/places were familiar from the previous day and I also sensed I was going in the wrong direction (believe it or not, my sense of direction is good, although it doesn't prevent me from getting lost). So I got off at the next exit, assuming that signs pointing out how to get back on the highway in the other direction would be posted for people who, like me, went the wrong way. No, but there were directions on how to get back on the highway going East (At this point, you might be wondering: "Why would you want to get on the hwy going East if you just got off it?" but wait, it gets better). So I follow these directions, hoping that the westbound entrance is near the eastbound. No such luck. But, you do get to the eatbound entrance immediately before the one that you exited on. If I'd had more time, I would have circled at least twenty times just to make my point, except that it is a toll highway, and I always have difficulty with the manual coin machines. I think that morning I spent about four times the amount of money I should have between my mistakes and the machines'. I eventually made it to the very place where I made my first miscalculation and was ok from then on.Oh, on to books. I've finished Eats, Shoots & Leaves, by Lynne Truss, which was great. The biggest disappointment was this hint: to create a real dash instead of two hyphens, press alt and the hyphen key together. I thought, oh happy day, until I tried it and it either did nothing, or brought up a dropdown window in the upper left corner of Microsoft Word.
I'm taking up Laura's suggestion to read Bill Bryson. I bought Notes from a Big Country, and it's also good. I would recommend it to anyone.
I should go clean now.
For anyone who's interested, here's a copy of the cleaning list for my house. I think it's excessive.
Cleaning Schedule

This is a very detailed chart. I have never seen anything like it, but I haven't actually seen that many cleaning charts. Come to think of it, I don't know that I've ever seen one besides this one. I'm glad your trip back was okay! I"m sure you had far fewer difficulties than I would have had if it had been me.
Glad you survived the evil toll roads of Illinois. Illinois is just a wacky state but I'll save that for my own blog.
Though your cleaning chart is ridiculous, ours is just plain obsessive. Since I'm moving out in approximately 6 weeks (Lord willing), I have begun to protest and not do my chores. So far, no one has noticed.
